Patrice Evra's Marseille contract terminated after UEFA season ban

Shaka Hislop says Patrice Evra's lengthy seven month ban is warranted, but understands the frustrations he faced.
Marseille players were involved in ugly scenes with fans ahead of their Europa League match with Vitoria Guimaraes in Portugal.
Marseille boss Rudi Garcia criticises Patrice Evra for lashing out at a supporter before their UEL clash at Guimaraes.

Patrice Evra has had his contract with Marseille terminated after UEFA suspended him from all European club competition until June 30, 2018, for aiming a kick at a fan ahead of a Europa League game.

Video footage showed the 36-year-old aiming the kick at the Marseille fan as visiting players and supporters confronted each other at the side of the pitch before the tie at Guimaraes on Nov. 2. He was then ushered away by a teammate.

Marseille had initially suspended the player indefinitely, but shortly...

Cologne to appeal UEFA sanctions over crowd trouble against Arsenal

Around 15,000 Cologne fans got into the Emirates Stadium in September.

Cologne have announced that they will appeal the UEFA punishments imposed on them for fan misconduct in the Europa League match at Arsenal in September.

UEFA hit the Bundesliga side last week with a €60,000 fine, a two-match travel ban, suspended for two years, and were told to reimburse Arsenal for damage caused after being charged with crowd disturbances, acts of damage and setting off fireworks.

The match on Sept. 14, which Arsenal won 3-1, had to be delayed by an hour as thousands of Cologne...

Oumar Niasse provides the spark in Everton's comeback win over Watford

David Unsworth savours Everton's last-gasp victory over Watford and addresses the future of the club's managerial vacancy.

Everton overcame a two-goal deficit to edge out Watford 3-2 and earn their first win in nine matches. This dramatic victory ended a five-game losing streak and handed caretaker manager David Unsworth his first win on his fourth attempt.

The health and well-being of supporters notwithstanding, Everton needs more performances like this one where they salvaged three points from 102 nerve-shredding, and occasionally indescribable, minutes of football.

It was not pretty -- in truth, parts of this match...

Patrice Evra career in jeopardy after outrageous Marseille fan clash

Patrice Evra was involved in ugly scenes before Marseille's Europa League match with Guimaraes on Thursday.

As a professional footballer, there are a few different ways to end your career. The most common method is to play one final game after many years as a pro.

Some are lucky to finish on a high with a trophy like Philipp Lahm or Xabi Alonso winning the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich last season, or Dirk Kuyt helping Feyenoord to their first league title in 17 years before retiring last summer as well.

For some, their bodies say "stop" and they never really get the farewell they deserve. Others leave...
