U.S. to kick off Nations League vs. Cuba in D.C.

Herculez Gomez and Shaka Hislop weigh the pros and cons of CONCACAF's qualifying format for the 2022 World Cup, which emphasizes the FIFA rankings.

The United States will play its inaugural CONCACAF Nations League match against Cuba at Audi Field in Washington, D.C., on Oct. 11.

The site was announced Monday by the U.S. Soccer Federation, which has yet to say where the Nov. 15 home match against Canada will be played.

As part of the new tournament, the U.S. plays its other Group A opponent Canada in Toronto on Oct. 15. The U.S. closes with another match against Cuba on Nov. 19, in a game that may be played at George Town, Cayman Islands.

Source: Chile approach U.S. youth Soto over switch

Herculez Gomez and Shaka Hislop weigh the pros and cons of CONCACAF's qualifying format for the 2022 World Cup, which emphasizes the FIFA rankings.

U.S. youth international and Hannover 96 forward Sebastian Soto has been contacted by Chile manager Reinaldo Rueda, with an eye towards the striker playing for La Roja, according to a source with knowledge of the approach.

Soto, 19, is eligible to represent three countries -- Chile through his father, Mexico through his mother, and the U.S. because it's the country of his birth. He has represented the U.S. at U19 and U20 level, and scored four goals for the Americans at the FIFA Under-20 World Cup...

In the Gold Cup final against Mexico last month, United States right-back Reggie Cannon put in a standout performance. In a family that includes two Ivy League graduates and an acclaimed climatologist, however, it takes a lot to stand out.

Getting to that final at Soldier Field in Chicago was not a path his family was initially on board with, especially as it involved him leaving UCLA after his freshman year. It helped his case, though, that Cannon's grandfather was supportive of the player skipping...

USSF, USWNT reach mediation impasse over pay

Golden Boot and Golden Ball winner Megan Rapinoe reflects on the impact the USWNT has had on and off the field after defending their World Cup title.

The United States Soccer Federation and members of the women's national team reached an impasse Wednesday in their attempts to mediate the ongoing dispute over equal pay, with a spokesperson for the players saying they "eagerly look forward to a jury trial."

Spokesperson Molly Levinson released the statement on behalf of the U.S. players after mediation ended Wednesday evening.

"We entered this week's mediation with representatives of USSF full of hope," Levinson said in the statement. "Today we...
