Mohamed Salah struck a fine 90th-minute winner as Egypt defeated rivals Tunisia 3-2 in Friday's Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the Borg El Arab Stadium, Alexandria.

Naim Sliti opened the scoring in the 14th minute for the visitors, but his opener was cancelled out when Trezeguet levelled the match for the hosts just after the half-hour mark.

Baher El Mohamady fired Egypt ahead on 60 minutes, but Sliti thought he'd rescued a point for the Carthage Eagles with his second in the 72nd minute.

Mohamed Aboutrika example as pertinent as ever before for Al-Ahly

In the aftermath of Al-Ahly's controversial CAF Champions League final first-leg victory over Esperance on Friday, the Confederation of African Football published a tweet that could have been seen as a cautionary word to the two competitors.

"Revive the fairplay spirit," the tweet began. "Compete with respect, win with honour."

At first read, the post came across as something of a rebuke to the two continental giants following an ill-tempered final in which refereeing decisions and poor sportsmanship...

Egypt FA support Ahly's appeal after Azaro suspension

The Egyptian Football Association will support Al-Ahly's complaints to the Confederation of African Football after the Red Devils were hit with sanctions after their CAF Champions League final first-leg victory over Esperance on Friday.

African football's governing body revealed on Monday that they have suspended forward Walid Azaro for unsporting behaviour following his antics in last week's 3-1 victory, meaning he will miss Friday's second leg in Rades.

Ahly revealed that they have submitted an...

Liverpool's Mohamed Salah follows Cristiano Ronaldo with unflattering statue

English Premier League: Alexandre Lacazette (82') Arsenal 1-1 Liverpool
English Premier League: James Milner (61') Arsenal 0-1 Liverpool

It has become something of a rite of passage for professional footballers, to have a strange, questionable and/or slightly insulting statue erected in your honour.

Some big names have been given with some even bigger eyesores in the past, and now Mohamed Salah can count himself as a member of the club.

The Liverpool forward has been immortalised by Egyptian sculptor Mai Abdel Allah, who unveiled her work at the World Youth Forum in Sharm El Sheikh on Sunday.

While the skill involved cannot be...

Referee, VAR in spotlight as Al Ahly win Champions League final first leg

Al Ahly have claimed the advantage after the first leg of the 2018 African Champions League final with a controversial 3-1 victory over Tunisian side Esperance at the Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria on Friday.

Algerian referee Mehdi Abid Charef awarded three penalties in the game, two to the home side and despite consulting the Video Assistant Referee (VAR), both appeared generous for Ahly.

Walid Soliman netted both spot-kicks and Amr Al Sulaya scored the other goal as eight-time winners Ahly...
