Costa Rica part ways with manager Oscar Ramirez after World Cup showing

SAN JOSE, Costa Rica -- The Costa Rica soccer federation says national team coach Oscar Ramirez is out after the team's disappointing performance at the World Cup.

Federation president Rodolfo Villalobos said Wednesday that Ramirez's contract has run out and won't be renewed. Costa Rica compiled a record of nine wins, six ties and four defeats in 16 qualifying and three World Cup matches under Ramirez.

CONCACAF 2018 World Cup showing 'par for the course' - Victor Montagliani

Sebastian Salazar and Herculez Gomez assess Mexico's World Cup after a last 16 exit and discuss why Liga MX could be a hindrance on El Tri's future.

World Cup: Josip Drmic (88') Switzerland 2-1 Costa Rica
World Cup: Kendall Waston (56') Switzerland 1-1 Costa Rica
World Cup: Blerim Dzemaili (31') Switzerland 1-0 Costa Rica

NIZHNY NOVGOROD, Russia -- Three quick points from Switzerland 2-2 Costa Rica in Group E at the World Cup.

1. Switzerland make it through but must improve

Through behind only Brazil, and on paper things look pretty sweet for Switzerland. But in this performance against Costa Rica, a 2-2 draw, they looked limp and disengaged for long spells; not qualities which bode well for progression further into the tournament.

The Swiss go through to face Sweden in the next round, and of all the teams through...
