MLS Power Rankings: Rooney and DC drop, as Timbers make move

We're a little lost here at the rankings. After the Gold Cup break which Major League Soccer instituted to (checking notes...) limit the damage done by international call-ups during the month of June, the league is back at it. Week 16 (as it turns out) brought six games involving 12 teams.

It wasn't a full schedule, but it was enough to cause some waves in the Power Rankings and leave some scratching their heads. Aren't all the internationals still away?

You get a pass if you missed most of the...

MLS W2W4: Zlatan and LA Galaxy take on Cincinnati without Mexico stars, Portland must start winning

After a one-week break, MLS is back in action with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and the LA Galaxy traveling to Cincinnati, FC Dallas hosting Toronto FC and Portland looking to begin a climb up the table at home against Houston.

Zlatan looking to take Cincy by storm

MLS matches during international tournaments always make for an interesting challenge for teams, and the LA Galaxy are no different. The likes of midfielder Jonathan dos Santos and forward Uriel Antuna are busy with Mexico in the Gold Cup...

Fire extinguished: Chicago needs to relight its fire in order to compete in modern MLS

The Chicago Fire became the first MLS team to fall to a non-MLS side in 2019, as Saint Louis FC ousted the Fire from the U.S. Open Cup.

In 2007, Martin Tomszak went to a soccer game, and it changed his life.

He joined the Chicago Fire traveling supporters' group for a match in Toronto. "I think there's a sense of having your back against the wall when you're at another opponent's venue and the camaraderie that comes along with that," he says. "Having 200 or 300 away fans in a Toronto venue was something special. I fell in love immediately." On the bus back home, he bought Fire season tickets and is now the vice-chairperson of...

The truth hurts: The tough questions facing all 24 MLS clubs in the second half of 2019

Check out every goal from the weekend in MLS, highlighted by a ridiculous bicycle kick from LA Galaxy's Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

With half of the 2019 MLS season gone, what are the realistic goals for all 24 teams with the secondary transfer window opening ahead of the final months of the season? Here are the biggest questions facing each club.

It has not been boring in Atlanta. Just weeks into the season, many Atlanta United fans wanted new head coach Frank de Boer's head on a platter, but slowly the Dutchman got things turned around and suddenly the 2018 champions are just two points out of the top spot in the Eastern...

MLS MVP race: LAFC's Vela holds sizable lead over Ibrahimovic, Rooney and the pack

Check out every goal from the weekend in MLS, highlighted by a ridiculous bicycle kick from LA Galaxy's Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The official start of summer isn't set to begin for almost two weeks, yet the dog days in MLS are most definitely here. The temperatures have heated up, and the separation between the haves and have-nots has begun. The Eastern Conference is a jumbled mass -- or is that mess? -- with eight points separating the first-place Philadelphia Union and sixth-place New York City FC. But LAFC is threatening to turn the quest for the Supporters' Shield into a one-horse race, despite the best efforts of the...

MLS Power Rankings: LAFC top, Union close behind at Gold Cup break

After a handful of games from Wednesday to Saturday, MLS is now officially on its Gold Cup break -- a break that lasts just long enough for teams to get a breather and regroup, but not long enough that most teams will have their contingent of internationals back, CONCACAF-affiliated or otherwise.

It's all very MLS. There's no denying that some teams need the break a lot more than others.

The paucity of games means that the rankings aren't dramatically different from last week, when we did a reset...
