Milan disappoint in defeat to Empoli as Europa League chances take a hit

Gianluca Lapadula scored Milan's goal but it wasn't enough in a bitter defeat.

AC Milan produced a bitterly disappointing performance in what will likely prove to be a costly 2-1 defeat at home to Empoli. The visitors took a two-goal lead before Gianluca Lapadula struck, but a wasteful Rossoneri were unable to complete another fight back as they lose crucial ground in the race for Europa League qualification.

Positives

Milan didn't let their heads drop after going two goals down coupled with Suso'ss penalty miss, as they continued to press until the end. It's a positive...

Inter capitulate at Fiorentina despite Mauro Icardi's consolation hat trick

Mauro Icardi celebrates with Inter Milan teammates after scoring a goal against Fiorentina.
Mauro Icardi scored a hat trick but it was too little, too late as Inter's recent struggles continued at Fiorentina.

Inter contrived to relegate their recent failures to mere footnote by allowing Fiorentina to mount a stunning comeback. Up 2-1 after a topsy-turvy first half, one could have been forgiven to think that Stefano Pioli's men had been gifted a reprieve. Ever intent on constantly bamboozling their long-suffering fan, the Nerazzurri allowed a Kalinic-less Viola to somehow net four goals in seventeen horrific minutes.

Matias Vecino -- who hadn't netted all season -- and Khouma Babacar ended up with two...

Roma in precarious position in fight for crucial Champions League spot

Unai Emery discusses rumours he is bound for Roma.

Qualifying for the Champions League significantly increases your revenue, by almost four times," said Mauro Baldissoni during Roma's extraordinary shareholder's meeting earlier this month. The club's general manager was trying to explain to shareholders losses of nearly €50 million between June and December last year, which reduced the club's capital by a third and forced them to hold the meeting.

"We didn't sell players (in January, despite losses) because we knew we had...

Well-rounded Juventus forging ahead in Champions League, Serie A

The FC crew are in agreement that Juventus are the clear favourites in their Champions League semifinal tie with Monaco.
Gab Marcotti breaks down the Champions League semifinal draw as AS Monaco take on Juventus on May 3rd.
Monaco manager Leonardo Jardim hails Champions League semifinal opponent Juventus for their stout defence.
Juventus head coach Max Allegri says victory against Genoa all but guarantees his team the Serie A title.

Having dumped Barcelona out of the Champions League, barely celebrating the occasion, Juventus are concentrated on the task at hand. A side currently outplaying the best teams in Europe, Juve have what it takes to win the treble this season, as long as they maintain their humility and focus.

Drawing Monaco -- a celebrated team of exciting youngsters -- in the Champions League semifinals, Juventus must ensure they do not underestimate a side accused of lacking experience. Having managed 90 goals...

With no better alternatives available, Inter must back manager Stefano Pioli

FC's Gab Marcotti dives into the rumours of Stefano Pioli's demise at Inter Milan following their 2-2 draw with AC Milan.

For a week that has seen Inter let bitter rivals AC Milan earn a stunning 2-2 comeback draw, it is strange that Saturday's match against Fiorentina should take such importance.

Is it because their opponents are four points behind, despite somehow contriving to lose to Empoli last week? Or because recent trips to Florence have resulted in two embarrassing losses and one, in which Inter collapsed after taking the lead?

Not really.

Rather, it's because Inter's yearly humiliations at the hands...

Milan need to sell Carlos Bacca to spark new era under Yonghong Li

Gab Marcotti evaluates what comes next for AC Milan after their takeover by Chinese businessman Yonghong Li.

It's been a whirlwind week for AC Milan following Yonghong Li's takeover of the club followed by the drama of the Derby della Madonnina. As things begin to settle, work is underway to start shaping the future of the club under its new ownership.

From meetings with Vincenzo Montella to promises over prioritising renewals for key players and identifying ideal summer transfer targets, there will be no time for Li and his hierarchy to bask in the glory of running their own European powerhouse.

Instead,...
