Asian Cup favourites South Korea 'on the right path' - Paulo Bento

Australia's Massimo Luongo scored in the last play of the game as the Socceroos held the Korea Republic 1-1 at Suncorp Stadium.

Coach Paulo Bento believes South Korea are continuing to make progress under his leadership after the side extended their unbeaten run with a thumping 4-0 win over Uzbekistan to enhance their status as one of the favourites for next year's Asian Cup.

Four different players scored for South Korea as they crushed the White Wolves in Brisbane on Tuesday, to improve their record to six games without a defeat since Bento took over from Shin Tae-yong in August.

Martin Boyle delighted to be playing for Australia: 'I'm extremely proud to represent this country'

Australia claimed a comfortable 3-0 win over Lebanon in Tim Cahill's sendoff match for the Socceroos.
Graham Arnold recalls how Martin Boyle came to his attention at Hibs and discusses his outlook for the younger Australian players.
Tim Cahill was given a rousing sendoff by the Australian fans and teammates during his final international appearance.

New Socceroos star Martin Boyle has passed the anthem test with flying colours, and he's still soaring following a huge first week of action for Australia.

Scottish-born Boyle, whose father was born in Sydney, made an instant impression in the Socceroos jersey with his direct running and nose for goal.

He laid on a late equaliser in his debut off the bench against South Korea last Saturday and scored two goals and set up the other in Australia's 3-0 win over Lebanon on Tuesday in his first start.

Argentina seem reborn as Lionel Scaloni looks to new generation

The guys respond to your tweets about Italy's strikers struggling, the USMNT in 2018, PSG's defence and who would play them in a movie.

Right at the start of Argentina's 2-0 win over Mexico on Tuesday, Mauro Icardi scored his first international goal. Nearing the end, Paulo Dybala, at last, also opened his account.

This serves as a fitting symbol for Argentina's post-World Cup fortunes. In Russia they were nothing short of a shambles. Since then, under the caretaker stewardship of the inexperienced Lionel Scaloni, things have gone better than anyone could have hoped.

Argentina's was the oldest squad in the World Cup. Scaloni has...

Edson Alvarez 7/10 but Mexico struggles to contain Argentina attack

The date and venue might have been different, but the result remains the same for Mexico: A 2-0 loss to Argentina. Following a defeat in Cordoba last week, Mexico followed up the result with another similar loss to La Albiceleste in Mendoza on Tuesday night.

Mexico has now ended 2018 with a worrisome tally of seven losses in the last eight games in all competitions.

Optimists could point out that Mexico nearly found the back of the net in the second half. Thanks to dangerous opportunities...

Mauro Icardi celebrates after scoring a goal for Argentina against Mexico.

An early goal from Mauro Icardi and a late strike from Paulo Dybala gave Argentina their second win in a row with a 2-0 victory over Mexico in a lukewarm friendly in Mendoza on Tuesday.

With two minutes gone Icardi, the Inter Milan striker controversially left out of Argentina's World Cup squad, beat two Mexican defenders on his right foot before transferring the ball to his left and whipping it past the keeper.

Dybala doubled the lead three minutes from time when he finished off a sweeping counter-attack...
