Utrecht fined for anti-Semitic chants in game against Ajax

Dutch Eredivisie club FC Utrecht have been fined for anti-Semitic chants by their supporters at a match against Ajax last season.

The Dutch football association on Friday fined Utrecht €10,000 and ordered them to play their next home game against Ajax with one of their stands empty, following the chants that marred a league match on April 5.

Ajax are traditionally seen in the Netherlands as a club with strong Jewish support and their fans have been targeted with anti-Semitic chants in the past.

The Dutch FA says in a statement that its disciplinary committee "considers it proven that there were repeated anti-Semitic chants" during the match. It says Utrecht did not take strong enough action to halt the chants.
