Facebook bought the television rights for the 2019-2022 Copa Libertadores on Friday, adding South America's premier club competition to a growing list of football tournaments in their broadcast portfolio.

The social media network bought exclusive rights to transmit Thursday night games in South America's equivalent of the UEFA Champions League, as well as shared rights to broadcast games played on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, South American Football Confederation CONMEBOL said.

CONMEBOL rescinds VAR red card for Cruzeiro's Dede after horror collision with goalkeeper

CONMEBOL says it has canceled a red card given to Cruzeiro defender Dede following a VAR decision in a Copa Libertadores tie against Boca Juniors last week.

South American football's governing body chose to overrule the decision to send off Dede after Paraguayan referee Eber Aquino dismissed him in Buenos Aires following a collision with Esteban Andrada, which led to the goalkeeper breaking his jaw.

The result means that Independiente, who earlier in the day were awarded a 3-0 first-leg win after Santos were adjudged to have used an ineligible player, qualified for the quarterfinals of South America's premier club competition.

Tuesday's game at the Pacaembu stadium was drifting...

Independiente close in on Copa Libertadores quarterfinals thanks to red card from 2015

South American football faced another day of turmoil on Tuesday after governing body CONMEBOL overturned the result of last week's Copa Libertadores game between Santos and Independiente less than 12 hours before their second leg was due to kick off.

CONMEBOL ruled that Brazilian side Santos fielded an ineligible player in the 0-0 first-leg draw in Argentina last Tuesday and awarded Independiente a 3-0 win.

The two teams meet again on Tuesday in front of a sell-out crowd at the Pacaembu Stadium...
