Mexico fan group backs ban of anti-gay chant

U.S.-based Mexico fan group Pancho Villas' Army has inserted a "no goalkeeper chant" clause into the group's membership and made abstaining from shouting the anti-gay chant a condition for buying tickets for games in their section, in a bid to help put an end to the chant often heard in stadiums when the Mexico national team plays.

A section of El Tri fans regularly shout an anti-gay slur as the opposition goalkeeper runs up to take his goal-kick and the federation has been fined on multiple occasions...

USMNT way-too-early look at 2022: Pulisic, Adams vital to future, but lack of depth remains a serious issue

The conclusion of the Gold Cup brought about mixed emotions for the U.S. men's national team. There was disappointment at the 1-0 final defeat to archrival Mexico, especially given the fact that the tournament hosts squandered several wide-open scoring chances.

By the end of the game, El Tri's talent advantage carried the day, but in the context of the entire competition, there was a modicum of satisfaction that a foundation had been laid. Relationships have begun to be established and there...

Mexico delivers harsh lessons to the USMNT

CHICAGO -- Throughout this Gold Cup, United States manager Gregg Berhalter spoke of nothing less than winning the tournament. Given the strength of Mexico's side -- even one shorn of players such as Tecatito Corona, Chicharito Hernandez, Carlos Vela and Miguel Layun -- the odds of that happening seemed long.

Mexico's 'other' Dos Santos emerges to haunt U.S. in Gold Cup final

CHICAGO -- The image of Giovani dos Santos taunting Tim Howard with intricate control, coaxing the ball back out of his reach and then lifting the most delicate of lofted shots into the top corner in the 2011 Gold Cup final is etched onto the collective consciousness of Mexico fans.

That was the last time these two countries met in a Gold Cup final. Eight years on, and with Giovani not on Mexico's squad, it was brother Jonathan dos Santos' turn to steal the show and rob Mexico's bitter rival, the...

'Tata' on Mexico's Gold Cup win: We'll improve

CHICAGO -- Gerardo "Tata" Martino's Mexico defeated the United States 1-0 on Sunday to lift the Gold Cup and the coach is adamant that there is still much work to do for El Tri

A second-half goal from Jonathan dos Santos was enough to seal Mexico's eighth Gold Cup, but Martino believes his project with Mexico is still in its infancy.

"We still not there, we need more time together, more time working and training, but we're on the right path," said Martino. "Nothing would've changed that with...
