Former Phoenix goalkeeper Glen Moss saved an 88th minute penalty to ensure Newcastle a share of the points against Wellington in a pulsating 1-1 draw at McDonald Jones Stadium on Thursday night.

A diving Moss denied Roy Krishna with his foot after Ben Kantarovski fouled Louis Fenton at the top of the penalty area.

Wellington keeper Oliver Sail then came to the visitors' rescue when he knocked a Roy O'Donovan shot into the woodwork during four minutes of added time.

The round 18 result kept seventh-placed...

Chris Ikonomidis continued his golden run of form as Perth Glory recorded a dominant 3-0 win over Wellington Phoenix in the A-League at HBF Park.

Ikonomidis had scored six goals in nine matches for Glory before departing for the Asian Cup, where he was a shining light during the Socceroos' doomed campaign.

The 23-year-old slotted straight back into Glory's lineup against Phoenix and combined brilliantly with fellow attackers Diego Castro and Andy Keogh to send Perth on their way.

Striker David Williams returned to haunt former A-League club Melbourne City, scoring the only goal in a pulsating 1-0 win for the Phoenix in Wellington.

Williams' first-time shot in the fifth minute decided a willing contest on Saturday between two top-six clubs, with the home side dominating the first half but barely clinging on in the second.

Wellington's seventh win of the season further cements their path towards the playoffs, lifting them one point behind City, who are guaranteed to remain...
