Girona have hired former Barcelona and Spain midfielder Eusebio Sacristan as their new head coach.

The Catalan club, who finished 10th in La Liga last season, said the 54-year-old has signed a two-year contract and would be presented on Friday.

He replaces Pablo Machin, who left the club last month to take the top job at Sevilla.

Eusebio had managed Real Sociedad since 2015 but was sacked in March with the team in mid-table.

Sevilla hire Pablo Machin away from Girona to become new coach

Pablo Machin

Pablo Machin has left Girona to take over as head coach at Sevilla, the Spanish club announced on Monday.

Sevilla, who went through three managers -- Eduardo Berizzo, Vincenzo Montella and Joaquin Caparros -- on their way to finishing a disappointing seventh, appointed Machin on a two-year contract.

"Machin has made his stamp on the game and now he can use the weapons of a team heading into Europe and which wants to compete at the highest level," a statement published on Sevilla's website said.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 50th career hat trick, then went on to add a fourth goal as Real Madrid beat Girona 6-3 in La Liga on Sunday.

The Portugal star continued his remarkable scoring streak to take his league tally to 22 goals for the season in another commanding performance at the Bernabeu.

Girona, who beat Real earlier this season, caused them plenty of problems again with Cristhian Stuani scoring twice and Juanpe also on target.

But there was no stopping Ronaldo, who has now hit an incredible...

Girona's early lead at Camp Nou was short lived as Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez orchestrated a masterful Barcelona win to continue their march toward the La Liga crown.

Luis Suarez fired a hat-trick and Lionel Messi a brace as Barcelona ran riot in a 6-1 win against Girona to stay on course for their 25th La Liga title.

Suarez and Messi both struck first-half doubles to take the game away from Girona, who paid for the impudence of taking a third-minute lead through Portu in their first visit to the Nou Camp.

Philippe Coutinho got in on the act in the second period with a brilliant fifth from 25 yards -- his first La Liga goal -- before Suarez, who also hit a post,...
