Adelaide, Central Coast advance in FFA Cup

Adelaide United have continued their FFA Cup defence with a 1-0 quarterfinal win against Newcastle, while Central Coast scored a last-gasp knockout of Hume City.

The Reds' victory was sealed by a first-half Al Hassan Toure tap-in on Tuesday night in Adelaide.

But in Melbourne, Central Coast endured a jittery quarterfinal against Victorian Premier League outfit Hume City until a 92nd minute winner from Abraham Majok.

Amid a manic goal-mouth scramble, Majok managed to get his left boot to the ball...

Mariners advance as Fowler's Roar pay the penalty

Central Coast Mariners celebrate their victory against Brisbane Roar.

Robbie Fowler's hopes of a FFA Cup quarterfinal berth were undone by Central Coast Mariners as last season's A-League wooden-spooners collected a penalty shoot-out win over Brisbane Roar on Wednesday.

Mark Birighitti was the hero for the Mariners, saving spot-kicks from Roy O'Donovan and Thomas Aldred for a 4-2 shootout win, following a 2-2 draw atDolphin Stadium in Redcliffe.

The Roar, having seen off A-League champions Sydney FC a fortnight ago in Fowler's debut as coach, created enough chances...

FFA Cup: Fowler to make coaching debut vs. Sydney FC

The first competitive match of Robbie Fowler's Brisbane Roar reign will be an FFA Cup clash away at A-League champions Sydney FC.

The Liverpool legend, who is embarking on the first full-time head coaching role of his storied career, will take the Roar to face Steve Corica's Sky Blues in a round-of-32 clash after the pair were drawn together on Wednesday.

It will be Fowler's first big challenge at the helm of the new-look Roar who have shipped out 16 players following their disastrous 2018-19 A-League...

Brisbane Roar loan O'Neill from Burnley

Brisbane have secured young Australian midfielder Aiden O'Neill for the 2019-20 A-League season.

The 20-year-old, who played for Central Coast last season, has joined on a season-long loan from Premier League side Burnley.

O'Neill is the eighth player announced by the Roar this week as ex-Liverpool star Robbie Fowler rebuilds the squad following a disastrous 2018-19 season.

- Mombaerts appointed new Melbourne City boss
- Amadi-Holloway, Gillesphey, Aldred join Brisbane

FFA board member apologises for Stajcic comments

A Football Federation Australia (FFA) board member has apologised for implying Alen Stajcic was sacked as Matildas coach for misconduct.

Heather Reid on Friday publicly apologised to Stajcic, who has considered legal action over his controversial axing at Matildas coach last January. Reid, in a statement, apologised for privately suggesting to media and others that "if the whole truth could be told, Stajcic would never work again in women's football."

"Mr Stajcic's contract was not terminated by...
