Melbourne City marquee Ritchie de Laet: 'I just want to play football again'

New Melbourne Victory signing Ola Toivonen speaks on a particular incident involving Swedish fans at the World Cup.

Melbourne City signing Ritchie de Laet's CV includes an English Premier League medal, promotion and international caps with Belgium.

But his goal in the A-League, where he has linked up with former coach Warren Joyce, is far simpler.

"I just want to play football again and enjoy it," he said on Tuesday.

"I know what the gaffer expects from his players. I want to graft again and do well for the team."

Joyce nods as he hears the words from his marquee recruit, who has signed a one-year loan deal from...

Bolasie & Abraham can fire Aston Villa back to the Premier League

Aston Villa fans may get the chance to get a first glimpse of Steve Bruce's new-look Villains side when they take on Blackburn Rovers in EFL Championship action this Saturday.

The experienced Bruce has brought in two African players - Yannick Bolasie of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Anglo-Nigerian forward Tammy Abraham - on loan, as he attempts to restore the fallen giants to the top tier.

The duo have a point to prove after struggling in the Premier League last term, and ex-Zambia assistant...

De Laet said the Scot, as well as Villa-based Socceroos captain Mile Jedinak, recommended the club after coach Warren Joyce came calling.

"When Warren called me, I was ready for something completely...

Manchester United Women earn 12-0 win at Aston Villa in league opener

Manchester United's Women ran riot at Boldmere St Michaels F.C. as they beat hosts Aston Villa Ladies 12-0 in their Women's Championship opener.

Jess Sigworth was the visitors' star as she netted five, having completed her hat trick before half-time; and the match was watched by a crowd of over 1,000.

United announced they were re-forming their women's team six months ago after 13 years and their first match was a 1-0 win over rivals Liverpool, a result that immediately increased...
