Chris Coleman's Sunderland rescue mission began with defeat as the Black Cats went down 2-1 at Aston Villa.

Albert Adomah and Joshua Onomah struck for Villa to condemn Coleman to defeat after he quit the Wales job to try to save Sunderland.

Lewis Grabban's 10th goal of the season was only a consolation for the Black Cats and defeat kept them rooted to the bottom of the Sky Bet Championship, four points from the safety line.

They have won just once this season and have lost half of their games with...

Albert Adomah scored twice for Aston Villa as they came from behind to beat QPR 2-1 at Loftus Road.

Adomah equalised with a penalty in the final seconds of the first half after Jamie Mackie's 18th-minute goal had put Rangers ahead.

And the winger took his goal tally for the season to eight by scoring what turned out to be the winner 13 minutes into the second half.

It clinched Villa's fourth victory in six away matches and condemned QPR to a second successive defeat.

Ugo Ehiogu to be honoured at Football Black List awards

Spurs correspondent Dan Kilpatrick reveals how highly the club regarded youth coach Ugo Ehiogu after his death aged 44.

Ugo Ehiogu's contribution to the game as an "excellent role model" will be acknowledged at the Football Black List celebration evening in London on Wednesday.

The former Aston Villa, Middlesbrough and England defender died in April after suffering a heart attack at Tottenham's training centre, where he was the club's Under-23 coach.

Only 44, Ehiogu's death was a huge shock to his many friends in football and came only a few weeks after he was given a One to Watch prize at the last Football Black...

Aston Villa's John Terry confirms broken bone in foot

John Terry walked gingerly off the pitch in Aston Villa's defeat on Saturday.

John Terry broke a bone in his foot during Aston Villa's defeat to Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, the defender confirmed.

Terry, 36, limped out of the game midway through the first half and was taken to hospital, where he learned he broke his fifth metatarsal.

Terry posted a photo of his foot in a boot on Instagram, writing: "Devastated is an understatement to how I'm feeling tonight.

"I have just had the news that I have broken my fifth metatarsal. I will be doing everything I can to get...

Sheffield Wednesday tore up the form book to claim a shock 2-1 Championship win over Aston Villa and record only their second away victory of the season.

Adam Reach set the visitors on their way with the opening goal after only 19 seconds and fellow former Middlesbrough man Jordan Rhodes made it two before the break.

Chris Samba's last-minute reply was too little, too late for Villa, who also lost John Terry to injury.

Steve Bruce's side went into the game with six wins from their previous eight games,...
