Adelaide, Western Sydney Wanderers join APIA and Heidelberg in FFA Cup quarterfinals

Adelaide United and the Western Sydney Wanderers have snuffed out stern challenges from state-league opponents to scrape into to the FFA Cup quarterfinals.

The Reds exorcised their demons at the venue where they were famously knocked out of the tournament two years ago by Redlands United, beating newly-crowned Queensland NPL premiers Lions FC 1-0 on Wednesday night.

And new recruit Alexander Baumjohann starred on debut as the Wanderers prevailed 2-1 against newly-relegated NSW NPL outfit Bonnyrigg...

Lions FC looking to emulate Redlands' famous 2016 FFA Cup win over Adelaide United

Lions FC coach Warren Moon is hopeful that the traditional home of football in Brisbane still holds terrors for Adelaide United as they prepare to make their return in the FFA Cup's round of 16.

A Guillermo Amor-coached Reds outfit were fresh off the A-League double when they met Queensland NPL side Redlands United at Perry Park two years ago.

Trailing 1-0 for much of the second half, Redlands were totally outclassed but snatched an equaliser in the 93rd minute to force the match into extra-time...

Sydney FC defeat Rockdale City Suns, Adelaide knocks out Central Coast in FFA Cup Round of 32

Sydney FC's new era is off to a winning start after opening their FFA Cup defence with a come-from-behind 4-2 victory over Rockdale City Suns.

A huge upset appeared to be brewing in new coach Steve Corica's first official match in charge, with Rockdale grabbing the lead in just the sixth minute through a cracking goal from Harris Gaitatzis.

Latching onto a short pass from his right, Gaitatzis hit a first-time chipped shot from the edge of the penalty area that sailed right over the head of gloveman...

Adelaide United sign former Wellington Phoenix defender Scott Galloway

Scott Galloway.

Scott Galloway has joined his fourth A-League club after signing a one-year deal with Adelaide United.

The 23-year-old defender had been on trial at the Reds after stints with Melbourne Victory, Central Coast and Wellington Phoenix.

"I knew coming here initially on trial I would have to impress [coach] Marco [Kurz] but I was always confident," Galloway said in a statement.

Reds boss Kurz added that he was delighted that Galloway would add depth to Adelaide's roster for the upcoming season.

"We...

Craig Goodwin returns to A-League club Adelaide United

Craig Goodwin has sealed his return to A-League club Adelaide United.

The 26-year-old has signed a three-year deal with the Reds, whom he left to join Dutch Eredivisie club Sparta Rotterdam two seasons ago.

"I'm obviously very excited,," Goodwin said in a statement. "I've left Holland with things not ending the way I would have liked, but I'm looking forward to this new opportunity to really take me to the next level.

"I just want to get back to really enjoying my football and that's what I did...
