Dortmund's Westfalenstadion could host Euro 2024 football.

The German FA (DFB) has reacted to Dortmund's warning that the city could withdraw its bid to become a host at the 2024 European Championship by inviting city representatives to hold talks.

It has also moved the deadline for cities to make their host applications formal back by a month from the original date of June 12.

On Wednesday, the mayor of Dortmund warned that the city could withdraw its bid to become a host because of an unclear financial situation.

Dortmund could scrap Euro 2024 bid amid financial concerns - mayor

Westfalenstadion's Yellow Wall
Dortmund's Westfalenstadion is one of the great stadiums in European football.

Dortmund could withdraw its bid to become a host city at the 2024 European Championships because of an unclear financial situation, its mayor has warned.

Local outlet Reviersport quoted Ullrich Sierau as saying: "If the business model of the German FA (DFB) and UEFA is to let us pay and them cash in, then it's a bit lopsided."

Sierau said the DFB demands that candidate cities "support them in the best way at their own expense," adding that it could not accurately be estimated how high those costs...

UEFA to research risks of young players heading the ball

ESPN FC's Taylor Twellman and Brian McBride respond to the USSF recommendation to eliminate headers for kids 10 and under.

NYON, Switzerland -- UEFA has asked for research proposals into the effects of young players heading the ball.

UEFA says a current lack of data "makes it hard to assess the true risk of playing football in this section of the population."

The U.S. Soccer Federation has advised its clubs to stop players aged up to 11 heading the ball, and limit how often 11- to 13-year-olds head balls each week.

The guidelines came after settlement of a concussion lawsuit filed by parents and players in a San Francisco...

Aleksander Ceferin: UEFA to present trophies on pitch, not in stands

Aleksander Ceferin has said trophy presentations will be carried out on the pitch.

FIFA president Aleksander Ceferin has said trophy presentations will be carried out on the pitch after ending predecessor Michel Platini's tradition of presenting them in the VIP section of stadiums.

In a statement, UEFA said Ceferin had decided that "trophy presentations on the pitch will now be standard practice across all UEFA club and national team competitions."

Schalke ultras use 'choreo' celebration display to call UEFA 'mafia'

Schalke fans celebrated their UEFA Cup triumph in 1997 with a choreo display.
Schalke fans celebrated their 1997 UEFA Cup win with a large choreo display.

Schalke ultras called UEFA "mafia" during a large-scale "choreo" celebration on the 20th anniversary of their 1997 UEFA Cup triumph.

On Saturday, during the club's last home match of the season, a 1-1 draw with Hamburg, Schalke ultras unfurled seven banners across all four stands of the Veltins Arena, including a 3D replica of the trophy which had the word "mafia" in place of UEFA.

The €119,991.45 choreo -- a co-ordinated display produced by fans in the ground that is particularly popular...

UEFA set to experiment with new 'ABBA' penalty shootout system

Alejandro Moreno delves into UEFA's new 'ABBA' penalty shootout system which will be tested at the European U-17 Championships.

UEFA is to test a new penalty shootout system at the men's and women's European Under-17 Championship tournaments which take place this month.

The new system, which is similar to a tennis tiebreak and has been referred to by some as "ABBA," is designed to reduce the potential advantage that the team taking a first penalty in a shootout currently may have.

Rather than the current process, which sees teams taking penalties automatically following each other in a sequence of pairs, the new system will...
