Melbourne Victory's Besart Berisha sent off while checked for concussion

While he's hardly known for being the shy, retiring type, it's hard not to feel a modicum of sympathy for Melbourne Victory striker Besart Berisha following his bizarre red card against Wellington Phoenix.

Indeed, Berisha was sent off while lying prostrate on the turf, having apparently been elbowed in the face by Phoenix defender Ben Sigmund.

While flat on his back and being checked for signs of concussion by the medical staff, the famously fiery Berisha lashed out at a Phoenix player, only for the referee to catch him in the act and duly produce the red card.

The A-League has since confirmed that Berisha will serve a two-match ban for his dismissal, though the Victory forward was backed by his manager, the equally even-tempered Kevin Muscat.

"Some of the treatment Besart receives is unacceptable," Muscat griped after the match. "His crime was getting elbowed in the head."

Well, when you put it like that ...
