It may have startled people to be told Wilfred Ndidi was better than N'Golo Kante when the former moved to Leicester in January, but such a lofty statement doesn't look so outlandish now.

There were many who took exception to such a claim. And considering just how pivotal the Frenchman was to the Foxes' title win last term, and his continued consistency for Chelsea this season, you can understand their position regarding such an elevated opinion on an unknown quantity. And to be honest, that's fine.

But...

Sikiru Olatunbosun almost breaks the internet with stunning goal for MFM FC

For anyone with doubts about the quality of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), the last few rounds of matches would have gone a long way towards laying them to rest. The most recent fixtures in particular served up some of the best fare that Nigerian football has to offer, so much so that one goal even went viral.

But there was more. Here are our three observations from this past weekend:

John Mikel Obi, Odion Ighalo leading an exodus of Nigerians to China

Jason Dasey and PJ Roberts talk through the pick of the Chinese Super League deals on European deadline day.
Odion Ighalo
Odion Ighalo completed his move from Watford to Chinese club Changchun Yatai on the final day of the winter transfer window.

First it was captain John Mikel Obi. Then forward Odion Ighalo followed. Now reports have emerged that midfielder Ogenyi Onazi and striker Brown Ideye could also be on their way to China.

Once considered the graveyard of football careers, the Chinese Super League is still not much higher up that particular totem pole despite attracting some of the world's biggest talent, with obscene wages proving an irresistible allure.

If the last two moves go through, Asia's money-spraying league would have claimed...

El Kanemi Warriors stun Abia, push Okey Emordi to resign as manager

El Kanemi Warriors' (in yellow) 1-0 win saw opposition manager Okey Emordi resign from his position at Abia United.

Missed penalties, applauded away teams and coaching resignations: all part of a weekend of football in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) that saw four clubs feature in continental action and miss out on domestic play.

If there were any expectations of a calm series of fixtures due to the reduced number of domestic games, they were rudely put to bed by Sunday evening.

Akwa United found some joy in faraway Gombe, where they drew 0-0. Nasarawa United missed a win by whiskers in a 1-1...

Kelechi Iheanacho at a career crossroads at Manchester City

Only 20 years of age,  Kelechi Iheanacho needs to find a place where he can be assured of regular game time.

Kelechi Iheanacho has returned to the crossroads of his Manchester City career. Just before the beginning of the season, the Nigeria international turned down the chance to participate at the Olympic Games in order to focus on impressing new manager Pep Guardiola and secure his precarious place in the City first team.

That decision proved to be a good one, as it not only allowed him to meet the boss ahead of the new season, but also to receive the reassurances he needed.

A rosy beginning led...

Akwa snap Plateau unbeaten streak in NPFL as continental campaigners excel

Christian Pyagbara's goal in the opening six minutes of Akwa's meeting with Plateu helped lift his team to a shock victory.

Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) clubs were involved in both domestic and continental competition this past weekend. Rangers, Rivers United, Wikki Tourists and FC Ifeanyi Ubah all had CAF Champions League exertions to handle, resulting in a smaller schedule of domestic games.

Here are three observations from a busy weekend:

Akwa snap Plateau unbeaten streak

Top-of-the-table Plateau United travelled to strugglers Akwa United carrying the league's last remaining unbeaten streak this season.
