Cristiano Ronaldo, Leo Messi's The Best absence showed 'a lack of respect' - Fabio Capello

The ESPN FC crew assess Luka Modric's credentials after he claimed The Best FIFA Men's Player award over Cristiano Ronaldo and Mohamed Salah.
Real Madrid and Croatia midfielder Luka Modric broke a decade long dominance by Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi by winning FIFA's best player award for the 2017-18 season.
Croatia captain and Real Madrid star Luka Modric has been named the Best FIFA Men's Player in 2018 after winning the Golden Ball award at the World Cup.

Fabio Capello says Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi's absence at FIFA's The Best awards showed a lack of respect from the pair.

"It's a lack of respect," Capello, who used to manage Real Madrid, told TVE in Spain. "You have to be here when you win and when you lose."

FIFA says the pair "discredited football" by not showing up.

"They don't realise, the one affected is the sport and then them."

Ronaldo's former teammate, Sergio Ramos, said it would have been nice if the pair attended.

FIFA's Jerome Valcke flew in private jets to 'avoid arrest' - legal documents

FIFA spent $11.7 million in less than three years on private jets, including luxury sightseeing trips for a top official, a newly published legal document shows.

Jerome Valcke, then the FIFA secretary general, was urged in a 2013 internal memo to find "more cost efficient alternatives whenever possible," according to the Court of Arbitration for Sport's verdict explaining why his appeal against a 10-year ban was dismissed.

Excessive use of private jets and ordering business-class travel for his...

Revealed: FIFA wants to fix transfers, deal with shady agents and address the loan system. Here's how.

In an interview with ESPN FC's Gab Marcotti, FIFA President Gianni Infantino details possible changes that could improve football's transfer system.

FIFA's stakeholder committee, which brings together representatives from federations, clubs, professional leagues and the players' union, FIFPro, met for the first time in March 2017. Almost exactly 18 months later, on Sept. 24, they will meet to discuss a raft of measures that, if approved, will represent the biggest overhaul to the transfer system since the Bosman ruling in 1996 (a European Court ruling that required clubs to allow players over the age of 25 to move freely between clubs once their...

FIFA bans three executives for life for roles in corruption investigation

FIFA's ethics committee imposed life bans on three officials for bribery and corruption after they pleaded guilty in the U.S. Department of Justice's investigation of international football.

Marketing executive Aaron Davidson, aide Costas Takkas and match agent Miguel Trujillo were also fined 1 million Swiss francs ($1.03 million).

It is unclear if FIFA has power to enforce the fines, though ethics judges have typically imposed large financial penalties in cases arising from the sprawling U.S. federal...

FIFA chief Gianni Infantino expresses doubt over La Liga game in U.S.

With reports that Girona are set to face Barcelona in Miami this coming January, the FC crew share their varying opinions on La Liga coming to the U.S.

La Liga may not get permission from FIFA to hold Girona's home game against Barcelona in Miami on Jan. 26, 2019, with president Gianni Infantino expressing doubt.

While plans to stage a game have been progressing, a decision has yet to be made by football's world governing body and Infantino has admitted the idea is not appealing to him.

In a statement provided by FIFA to ESPN, Infantino said he is keen for the game to develop in the United States and is very supportive of Major League Soccer.

"I...
